Unless you live in the dark ages or are a complete normob aka normal mobile user, you will be aware of the lock-down Nokia has developed to try and outwit the would be mobile users who would like to be able to manipulate their operating system to suit their needs. Essentially a form of customisation to enable or dis-enable certain aspects of the system, such as removing search options from the standby screen or removing bookmarks from the default browser that they do not need or will not use. Take for example a screenshot of my two n82 handsets.
Below is a screenshot of one handset without any hacks. You can see that the search option takes up two lines on the display. This allows only one diary engagement to be shown.
The screenshot below on this mobile has the hack enabled. I have removed the search option from the standby display screen. You can see that this allows for two diary appointments to be displayed due to the removal of the search option which i rarely use so i do not need it as a permanent display on my standby home-screen display.
For those of you worried about how you will access for example the search option, wlan or share online, these actually also exist in the main folders on your phone. Essentially they are just a short-cut to the application that you already have installed.
I am now thinking on removing the wlan and share on-line plug-ins. I do not see a need for them on the standby screen for my daily usage of my phone. Note: Be aware that this does invalidate your warrantee should Nokia find out you have been toying with their operating system. But as many knowledgeable users are 'tinkerers', we do like to test and try to manipulate the operating system to best suit us and know the chances that we take in doing this. It also enables us to stretch the handsets capability that Nokia would have us believe is "one face to suit all".
I wont leave links as they are available on most popular phone websites for those that are interested. I take no responsibility for those who have corrupted or manhandled there phones by using the above process. I only post this topic as a form of information only.
