Meet the creator Martin Cooper and his brainchild, the mobile phone. The first handset was created with the help of the Motorola team in 1973.
The baby weighed two kilos. Unbeknown to Cooper, he could not have conceived how successful his baby would become. "The battery lifetime was 20 minutes but not a big problem as you couldn't hold the phone up for that long." Cooper and his team dreamed that one day everyone would have their own handset.
Cooper hopes that in the future, handsets would aim to improve a user's quality of life and believes in the long run, "the cellphone is going to be embedded under your skin behind your ear along with a very powerful computer who is in effect your slave".
