Most of you will know of the trials of the past week following my purchase of the iPhone 4. I was so very happy on Monday after my purchase only to reach the end of my tether by Wednesday. I did not want much or at least I did not think so. All I wished was to transfer my pay as you go 3g sim to a pay as you go micro sim and keep my number. After spending two days of combing Vodafone stores for the elusive pay as you go sims – I concluded, that they do not exist. Enquiries to customer service sent me to the Vodafone store to get the pay as you go sim. The stores, all of six of them and including the Vodafone Oxford Street Experience Store – the largest store I know of in London, sent me back to customer service, who again directed to me the store. This cycle continued over the two days from Vodafone store to Vodafone store. Not one store had the micro sim and staff and managers claimed they have never had stock. I exclaimed that the iPhone 4 has been on sale for 6 months, surely someone had wanted a pay as you go sim and how has it taken them so long to still be unable to stock them? Well, it seems anyone that wanted one had either to buy the iPhone on contract from a Vodafone store or they had to buy the pay as you go iPhone from Vodafone. Unfortunately, I had already made my purchase at the Apple Store and it was where I wished to buy for warranty purposes.
I finally took my groans to ‘Twitter’ in exasperation and VodafoneUK picked up my problem. I received a very nice email with the promise of a sim to arrive in the post. After 3 days, here it is.
So to those staff working in Vodafone stores and customer service staff online, please work something out between yourselves so that customers are not left to travel from store to store for what appears to be a non-existent product that is not available in store or via customer service.
However, it is available somewhere! So do not give up hope. Email vodafone direct if you have problems. A very special thank you goes out to VodafoneUK. After 5 days of ownership I can at last use my iPhone 4.
Now about compensation…lol.
