iOS Creates the Consistency of Glue

Today’s report centres on the belief that iOS users stick to the platform because paid-for apps creates a lock-in, forcing consumers to think twice about moving across to an alternative platform. Personally, it is not the reason I stick with iOS but I am sure it may play a part in the thoughts of some consumers. Who would want to buy another set of apps after spending, perhaps what could amount to several hundreds of pounds, to purchase these apps again on another platform. With the abundance of handsets and options of app stores, it could be said that there is a case for app developers to allow that the purchase of the app on one platform gives you a license to download the app on another platform without paying again. But, somehow I can not see an incentive here for developers who, afterall wants to maximise the money they can make from their creation as does the phone manufacturer.
