Visa has joined BRE Bank’s mBank and MultiBank to test NFC. The handset of choice is Apple’s iPhone which will be equipped with an iCarte NFC accessory. The tests will be conducted via an NFC pilot project in Poland, which will see participants equipped with the clip-in iCarte accessory attached to third generation iPhone or an iPhone fourth generation via an iCarte case. Once the applicants have downloaded the companion Visa Mobile app and paired with their bank card, they will be able to make small payments (up to €12) without the need to enter a PIN.
Pawel Kucharski of BRE Bank said “We are launching the mobile payments pilot for holders of iPhone devices because it is from these devices that our clients log into our transaction service most frequently, our statistics show that as much as 35% of all log-ins to MultiBank are from Apple handsets.
This may come as disappointing news to those that hand inferred that Apple was behind the times without NFC in their handsets, but it appears that the major banks are resolving this situation for them.
