A new survey looks into Europe’s love of Apple’s iPad and other tablets. The survey found that the number one place for usage of their tablet is the living room and the bedroom and over 90% of consumers use their tablet for at least an hour every day.

The iPad although at the forefront of tablet sales are used less than non-iPad tablets and thought more than half of tablets owners take their device overseas on holiday, only 15% use them while commuting.

As consumer look to tablets to substitute the weight and size of laptops and netbooks around the home, Sofa Surfers and Bedroom Browsers become the early adopters in the market.

Of 4,500 respondents, almost 80% said they used their tablets in the living room and nearly seven in ten use it in the bedroom.

“Previously, people had to leave the room and sit down at a computer to use the internet. A tablet offers a more convenient and social means of access, allowing users to join in with family activities while remaining on-line,” stated Martin Garner, Senior Vice President, Internet, at CCS Insight who conducted the survey.

It is believed that the astronomical costs of 3G tariffs and WIFI limitations are encouraging people to opt for e-readers such as Amazon’s Kindle when reading books are the priority.

The present trend is that of non-iPad owners recording 30 minutes more usage on average than users equipped with Apple’s iconic device. “We found that younger people are more likely to own cheaper non-Apple devices, and that these users tend to be most engaged with social networks,” said Garner.
