This is the first Original Apple iPhone manufactured in 1983. Let us take a closer look at what would become a design icon of the future.
We can already see the iconic white as the base of its status and the incorporation of the touch screen design that would later encompass the mobile smartphone and tablet market. The designer Hartmut Esslinger was also credited with the design of the Apple IIc computer. Little did we know back then how much this first design would play in Apple’s technological innovation. The design of the touch screen portion reminds me very much of the iPad. The iPad is the number one tablet of ranking on the tablet market today and one of Apple’s best-selling products of the year. Alongside the iPad is the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Apple has also added to their designs with the MacBook Air. With all these innovative products showing us the capability of the technological revolution being undertaken in Apple, we wonder what other early products and prototypes are languishing or perhaps being brought back to life at this very moment ready to seize the market in a further grip of Apple-mania.
2012 see us looking forward to the iPad 3, iPhone 5 and perhaps if rumours are correct a mini iPad of approximately 7.5 inches. It appears to be a niche market that Apple has left alone at present but one in which the iPad could transcend its availability. Industry insiders say it would not take much to adapt the iPad into a mini-tablet but Apple perhaps are wise to wait until they feel the need to establish themselves in this market. It is a well-known fact that Steve jobs liked the Apple iPad at its present size and stated that we would not be seeing a mini tablet. But Apple have made claims before about things they would not be doing only to later change their minds and they certainly have the design team behind them to facilitate any change.
Apple’s head of Design Jonathan Ive will receive a Knighthood in 2012 in recognition of his 19 years at Apple and his design team has been accredited to the iPod Touch, iPad and the iPhone. Had Steve Jobs been born in Britain he too would have received this recognition for his years of design, creativity, innovative and the technological assets that he has brought to Apple to make it one of the most important and most profitable companies in the industry.
