He described the honour as “absolutely thrilling” and said he was “both humbled and sincerely grateful”.

Mr Ive’s added: “I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making.

“I discovered at an early age that all I’ve ever wanted to do is design.”

Jonathan’s early frustration with the company changed when in 1995 Steve Jobs returned to the company and with it a special relationship was built with Apple and Steve Jobs.

Born in 1967 to a Silversmith, Ive’s enjoyed disassembling things to see how they ticked and from an early age his love of drawing and creating things led him on the path to Northumbria University. At University he studied industrial design.

Ive’s along with three friends founded a design agency and Apple as one of the clients were much impressed with Jonathan’s work made on a pro type notebook that he was offered a full-time job with Apple.

Ive’s design team have been credited with products that have turned the company around to become one of the most influential companies on the planet. He was described as Job’s ‘spiritual partner’ but Ive’s expressed his disappointment that some innovations Job’s took credit for when it came from within Ive’s own design team.

This is not the first time Ive’s has been recognised in the honours list, receiving a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 2005.
